Clean Water is a Right for Newarkers and Everyone!

Clean Water is a Right for Newarkers and Everyone!

Make the Billionaires Pay!

Working People Must Unite to Fight for the World We Want!

We charge the billionaires and their Democratic and Republican parties and politicians with murder, SOCIAL MURDER. The ruling class spends trillions on endless imperialist wars and tax breaks and bailouts for billionaires and their corporations, but they can’t find the money for clean water. The billionaires’ destruction and contamination of our public water system in Newark and around the country, that has taken place over decades, is part of a larger privatization and destruction of all our public services, from education to health care. These crimes must end! Working people must unite and fight for the world we want.

The Jobs and Equal Rights for All Campaign and Our Candidates for the NJ Assembly, 29th Legislative District, Yolanda Johnson and Nichelle Velazquez pledge to introduce the following legislation:

1. The State of New Jersey will undertake a crash program to replace all lead service lines, free of charge, in Newark and across the state and fund a high quality, competent and democratically controlled public water department to guarantee safe, clean water. This includes training the workforce, open to all, necessary to carry out this project. Until this is completed clean, bottled water must be provided to affected residents free of charge.

2. The State of New Jersey will undertake a crash program to remove lead and other contaminants, such as “Teflon chemicals” (toxins produced by DuPont and other corporate criminals) from water, housing, soil, and other sources in Newark and across the state that are poisoning our residents.

3. The State of New Jersey will implement a 5% annual tax on the wealth—stocks and bonds—of families with over $2 million in assets (basically the 1%). These funds, approximately $15 billion a year, would be used to fund the programs above and for other public services.

The Jobs and Equal Rights for All Campaign and Our Candidates Are Building a Movement Demanding:

4. The U.S Federal government establish a democratically-controlled, public works and services program open to all who live here, to create free quality public services we need, including clean water, education, health care, transportation, housing and clean energy that will also create good jobs for all. This program will be financed by taxing the wealth and income of the rich and corporations, and ending all US wars, occupations and military aid and training. While Trump and the Democrats collaborate to lock up immigrants, we say that we need the help of all—immigrant and native-born alike—to rebuild NJ, the US and the world!
